Empowering Your Marketing through Expert Storytelling
- Friday, November 10, 2017 - 1:00pm to 6:00pm
How do you communicate the value of the work your organization is doing—whether that means telling someone why they should come sit down and see your play, or promoting that great community initiative to make it a success—and ensure that your organization gets the credit? As marketers, you’re at the frontlines of telling the story of your organization and your art. That type of storytelling is both deceptively simple and extraordinarily challenging.
This special preconference, built out of one of the most popular sessions at the 2017 Annual Convention, leads you through a hands-on exploration of how to tell a good story. How do you change a mind? How do you get to the heart of what your work is doing? How can you use images, words, testimonials, and advocates in the community to bring your story to the fore in a sea of crowded, conflicted, attention-seeking narratives?
Join Joe Lambert, founder and executive director of StoryCenter, for this five-hour, hands-on experience.
StoryCenter, an Oakland-based nonprofit, was founded in 1993 with the mission of creating spaces for transforming lives and communities through the acts of listening to and sharing stories. StoryCenter has partnered with organizations like Adobe, the Anne E. Casey Foundation, the Centers for Disease Control, the American Film Institute, the National Gallery of Art, and AlternateROOTS to teach people from all walks of life how to create and share stories of the work they do through both analog and digital media.
