Scholarship Opportunities

We are pleased to announce the following scholarship opportunities for the 2018 National Arts Marketing Project (NAMP) Conference. Scholarship applications closed on July 25.

Must be a member of Americans for the Arts to apply

Important Deadlines and Key Dates

  • June 27, 2018: Scholarship application is open
  • NEW!! July 25, 2018: All scholarship applications are due
  • August 13, 2018: Scholarship recipients will be notified
  • August 15, 2018: Awardees must confirm acceptance of the scholarship
  • August 24, 2018: Early Bird registration deadline
  • November 9-12, 2018: National Arts Marketing Project Preconferences and Conference
  • December 7, 2018: One page final report deadline

Main Conference Scholarships (3 available)

Who can apply: Open to any Americans for the Arts member who wishes to attend the main Conference.

What is given: Scholarships up to $500 in post-facto reimbursement for the main Conference related expenses.

These scholarships can be used to reimburse (with appropriate receipts):

  • Registration for the Main Conference (November 10-12, 2018) 
  • Airfare and/or other transportation to attend the Main Conference (November 10-12, 2018)
  • Lodging expenses during the main Conference (November 10-12, 2018)

Main Conference Scholarship recipients will be notified of their scholarship in advance of registering, but will need to incur all expenses and then receive reimbursements for appropriate expenses after the Conference has concluded, upon receipt of (1) appropriate receipts indicating reimbursable expenses and (2) a one-page report outlining at least three core lessons learned from the Conference.
 
Evaluation criteria for these scholarship opportunities
Scholarship recipients are selected on a competitive basis by a committee composed of Americans for the Arts staff and outside panelists. Applicants will be evaluated based on the information provided in the scholarship application.

In order to be considered for these scholarships, you must be a current member or join as a member of Americans for the Arts.

 

The Robert B. McMillen Foundation Scholarship – (10 Available)

Who can apply: Open to any artist residing in rural Washington who wishes to attend the main Conference.

What is given: The Robert B. McMillen Foundation Scholarship provides the recipient with up to $500 in post-facto reimbursement for main Conference registration.

These scholarships can be used to reimburse (with appropriate receipts) registration fees for main Conference (November 10-12, 2018).

McMillen Foundation Scholarship recipients will be notified of their scholarship in advance of registering, but will need to incur all expenses and then receive reimbursements for appropriate expenses after the Conference has concluded, upon receipt of (1) appropriate receipts indicating reimbursable expenses and (2) a one-page report outlining at least three core lessons learned from the Conference.

Field Diversity: Leaders of Color (2 available)

Who can apply: Open to Americans for the Arts members at any point of their career who identify as ALAANA (African, Latino/a, Asian, Arab, and Native American) and/or a person of color.  

What is given: The Full-Ride Scholarship provides the recipient with:

  • one (1) complimentary registration to a 2018 Preconference (November 9, 2017)
  • one (1) complimentary registration to the full NAMP Conference (November 10-12, 2018)
  • roundtrip airfare to the NAMP Conference site in Seattle, WA
  • up to four (4) nights of hotel accommodation at The Westin Seattle, the official Conference hotel, November 9-12, 2018

Travel and hotel accommodations must be handled by Americans for the Arts. Full-Ride Scholarship recipients will be expected to complete a one-page final report outlining lessons learned at the 2018 NAMP Conference.

 

Field Diversity: Leaders with Disabilities (1 available)

Who can apply: Open to Americans for the Arts members at any point of their career with any type of disability, including but not limited to physical disabilities, medical conditions, mental and psychiatric conditions, speech and language, learning disabilities, behavioral conditions, or other disabling condition. 

What is given: The Full-Ride Scholarship provides the recipient with:

  • one (1) complimentary registration to a 2018 Preconference (November 9, 2018)
  • one (1) complimentary registration to the full NAMP Conference (November 10-12, 2018)
  • roundtrip airfare to the NAMP Conference site in Seattle, WA
  • up to four (4) nights of hotel accommodation at The Westin Seattle, the official Conference hotel, November 9-12, 2018

Full-Ride Scholarship: Serving Underserved Communities (2 available)

Who can apply: Open to Americans for the Arts members who serve the needs of communities where access to the arts is limited by geography, race/ethnicity, economics and/or disability.

What is given: The Full-Ride Scholarship provides the recipient with:

  • one (1) complimentary registration to a 2018 Preconference (November 9, 2018)
  • one (1) complimentary registration to the full NAMP Conference (November 10-12, 2018)
  • roundtrip airfare to the NAMP Conference site in Seattle, WA
  • up to four (4) nights of hotel accommodation at The Westin Seattle, the official Conference hotel, November 9-12, 2018

If you are applying in a specific or multiple categories, please include content as it relates to that category.

In order to be considered for these scholarships, you must be a current member or join as a member of Americans for the Arts.

Restrictions

  • Americans for the Arts scholarships do not cover the cost of any transportation or incidentals beyond the travel directly to and from the Conference site or any other additional activities.

  • All reimbursement-based scholarships require receipts as proof of purchase before reimbursement will be made.  Reimbursements will not exceed $500.  Reimbursement requests received without the required one-page report and/or appropriate receipts will not be honored.

  • Conference scholarships may only be used to attend the NAMP Conference and Preconference in Seattle, Washington, November 9-12, 2018 and are non-transferable.

  • Recipients of Full Ride Scholarships (#1) must have the ability to depart from an airport that reasonably connects to the NAMP Conference host city. Airline travel for Full Ride Scholarships is based on the availability of reasonable airfare rates as deemed by Americans for the Arts. Free or award tickets may be used and result in the inability to retain frequent flier miles for the individual. If preferred air travel is unavailable or not served by your nearest airport this portion of the scholarship may be unavailable. No substitutions for air travel can be allowed except in cases where rail or car are deemed the most appropriate travel option by Americans for the Arts.

  • All recipients are required to submit a one-page report about their experience by December 7, 2018. This one-page report should specifically detail at least three lessons learned at the conference. Reimbursements will not be made until the one-page report is received.

  • An individual may apply for all scholarships offered provided that they meet all of the eligibility criteria for each category of award.  However, a maximum of one scholarship per individual will be awarded. Applicants who apply for any of the Full Ride Scholarships will be automatically considered for a Main Conference Scholarship.
