Opening Reception at Clayborn Reborn
- | #NAMPCSaturday, November 11, 2017 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm
On Saturday night, join Americans for the Arts and ArtsMemphis at this year’s Opening Reception at Clayborn Reborn. Once the long-shuttered Clayborn Temple AME Church, there’s no question that Clayborn Reborn has a sacred place in the heart of Memphis. The historic Clayborn Temple was safe haven and activism hub for the Sanitation Workers, whose strike for fair wages and working conditions brought Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to Memphis to fight for economic justice. Since then, it has served as an organizational hub for the entire region as the Civil Rights Movement spread throughout the South.
Today, Clayborn Reborn serves as an energetic community hub in Memphis, with a renewed focus on sustainable growth and improvement. Symbolic of Memphis’ transformation from a city of tragedy to one of triumph, come celebrate a new Memphis: a diverse and vibrant arts and cultural destination that is embracing the challenges of the past to inform solutions for a better future.
Please Note: We recommend to wear comfortable shoes as Clayborn Reborn has uneven and unfinished flooring; portions of the reception may also be outside.
