Succession Planning for Sustainable Futures

  • Sunday, November 17, 2019 - 4:15pm to 5:30pm

Traditionally arts institutions have been experienced as very quiet, sacred spaces created for an older generation's primary enjoyment. Often deemed as inaccessible spaces for marginalized groups, these cultural entities have maintained a siloed persona. As younger generations become more interested and involved in institutions of art, it has become imperative that the traditional arts institution structure is re-imagined. This re-imagining is critical to the sustainability of these institutions.

Part of that sustainability process includes planning for succession. Preparation for transition from one generation of leadership to another requires intentional creation, development and implementation of processes. These processes ensure that transitions are made as smoothly as possible and are created with the institution’s mission and constituents at the core. Succession planning maintains that no one individual is more important than the successful operation of the organization to carry out its mission and to serve future generations.

During this Session, Attendees will:
1. Learn the importance of succession planning.
2. Obtain skills needed for creating a succession plan.
3. Obtain skills to assist with re-imagining the traditional structure of arts institutions.
